The Conflict

After the Israeli Declaration of Independence, an inter-state conflict between Israel and the Arab states took place. As a result of the war, Israel retained almost 60% of Palestine, including wide strip along the Tel-Aviv-Jerusalem road, West Jerusalem and some territories in the West Bank. Israel ethnically cleansed over 700,000 Palestinian Arabs, which were displaced from their homes and became refugees.
